Cedar Park

Howdy Neighbors!

My Story: When I moved to Cedar Park, my son was six. He grew up playing basketball with his friends and neighbors in the cul-de-sac in front of our home. He’s now a young adult, and I realize that his childhood could not happen now because of the STR next door. Traffic, Ubers, deliveries, strangers that care nothing of our neighborhood or the people living here, parties, inebriated guests all add up to an environment that is no longer safe like it was not long ago.

We are a group of Cedar Park residents concerned that our neighborhoods are being overrun by Short Term Rentals.

Short Term Rental is just another term for hotel: Short Term Rentals (STR) are commercial hotels or lodgings that violate municipal code in Cedar Park when located in neighborhoods zoned for single family residences. The challenge comes from the fact that the City has never even attempted to regulate them, much less to stop them.

Short term rentals CAN be regulated and largely eliminated from Cedar Park. The path that our city leaders must take is very clear.

We need your help to get our message to the City Council, Mayor, and City Manager that there is support for them to act. There is power in numbers; the more citizens they hear from, the more likely they are to enact common sense regulations.

On August 10, 2023 we had four residents that are fed up with STRs in their neighborhood speak at the City Council Meeting. From that one meeting, we have been contacted by two council members – a very good sign that we can quickly gain support. See us speak here (starting 16:20):  https://cedarparktx.new.swagit.com/videos/268977

What can you do?

1) Email Us! Tell us your story:  stopstrcedarpark@gmail.com

2) Come to a City Council Meeting. Tell them your story:   During the public forum part of the meeting, each speaker may sign up for 3 minutes to address the council. It is easy and quite informal. Tell them your stories, tell them your worries and fears, tell them how your family’s lives have been impacted and ask that they act.

Tell us you are coming. You will not be alone; we will be there speaking as well!

Upcoming Meetings:

August 24; 450 Cypress Creek Rd, Building 4

September 7; 450 Cypress Creek Rd, Building 4

September 21; 450 Cypress Creek Rd, Building 4

The public forum portion of the meetings start at 7 p.m.; come early so we can help you sign up.

3) Email your city leaders:  Express your support; share your stories; request that they act. Below is an email list that can be copied and pasted.

The Goal: We have spoken with others around the state and have formulated a plan and an outline of legal and effective regulation that should be put into place.

Do not put up with the chaos and havoc that STRs create in our City and your neighborhood! Do not suffer in silence! Together, we will make this change and improve our City and the lives of our families in the interest of the community to address the STR issue, contact us for additional information: stopstrcedarpark@gmail.com.
