San Antonio
In 2018 San Antonio enacted an ordinance that allows 12.5% of homes on a block to be a short-term rental - that is, one of every eight homes can be an STR. San Antonio Ordinance.
Current data shows there are over 5300 STRs in San Antonio, with only about half of them actually being registered. 87% are entire house rentals, thus taking over 4,6 homes off the ownership and rental markets for San Antonio residents during a housing crisis. This ordinance has been ineffective at best and disastrous for many neighborhoods, and residents are starting to push back.
